Monthly Revenue Report: What to Track, How to Analyze, and a Template That Works

A monthly revenue report keeps your business on track. Here's exactly what metrics to include, how to spot trends before they become problems, and a framework for turning data into action.

Why Monthly Reports Matter

Most founders check metrics sporadically — glancing at Stripe when they're curious, checking analytics when traffic feels low. This reactive approach means you spot problems weeks or months late.

A structured monthly report forces you to look at the full picture on a consistent schedule. It takes 30 minutes monthly and saves you from nasty surprises.

The Report Structure

Section 1: Revenue Summary (2 minutes)

  • MRR — current, last month, MoM change
  • ARR — current (MRR × 12)
  • Revenue collected — actual cash received this month
  • Costs — total operational costs
  • Profit/Loss — revenue minus costs

Section 2: Growth Metrics (5 minutes)

  • New customers acquired
  • Churned customers
  • Net customer change
  • MRR growth rate
  • Expansion MRR (upgrades, add-ons)

Section 3: Funnel Performance (5 minutes)

  • Website visitors (by channel)
  • Signup rate
  • Trial-to-paid conversion rate
  • Traffic → paid customer rate (end-to-end)

Section 4: Unit Economics (5 minutes)

Section 5: Actuals vs Projected (10 minutes)

This is the most valuable section. Compare every metric above against your model's projections. Where are you ahead? Behind? Why?

Section 6: Next Month's Priorities (3 minutes)

Based on the data, write 3-5 specific actions for the next month. These should directly address the biggest gaps or opportunities identified in the report.

Automating the Report

The InnovexFlow Revenue Modeler handles most of this automatically. Enter your monthly actuals in the Live Data tab and it shows variance against projections. The AI advisor can analyze the data and suggest priorities.
